LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Beauty Benefits

Permanent reduction of unwanted facial and body hair. Effective for women and men.

What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal treatments are a safe and effective way to permanently reduce unwanted facial and body hair using the power of laser-light.  Long-term cost savings and the convenience of not having to wax, tweeze or pluck are just a few of the reasons so many people are choosing laser.  Laser hair removal combines the speed of shaving with the lasting results of electrolysis.  Laser hair removal treatments are effective for both men and women.

How does laser hair removal treatment work?
Low energy laser-light is applied to the surface of the skin through a small hand piece.  The laser-light passes harmlessly through the uppermost layers of skin and delivers a controlled amount of therapeutic heat to the hair follicle beneath the surface.  The heat absorbed by the hair follicle disrupts ‘normal’ hair cell function, stopping growth.

How many treatments will I need?

Multiple visits are required for permanent hair reduction.  While individual results vary, the average number of visits required for permanent hair reduction is six and occasional touch-ups may be required beyond this.  Individual treatments are structured 3-12 weeks apart depending on the treatment number and ongoing hair removal results.

What does a laser hair removal treatment cost?
Laser hair removal pricing depends on the size and number of area(s) being treated. Pricing ranges from $109 per session for the smallest body areas up to $500 per session, or more, for the largest ones.  All of our consultations are FREE and confidential.

How long does laser hair removal treatment take?
Laser hair removal treatments can last several minutes to one hour or more, depending on size and number of area(s) being treated.

What type of lasers do you use?

Raya MedSpa uses the Candela GentleLASE™ (755nm Alexandrite laser) and the Candela GentleYAG™ (1064nm Nd:YAG laser) for laser hair removal.  These two lasers have an excellent safety record and offer unparalleled hair removal capabilities for all skin types.

Does laser hair removal work for everyone?

Laser hair removal is the quickest and most effective treatment for permanent hair reduction.  Even so, individual results vary and one thing that we cannot control is your normal biological functions.  Certain health conditions present today, or in the future, can stimulate dormant (sleeping) hair cells to grow.  These conditions include, but are not limited to: polycystic ovarian disease, endocrine system diseases, hormonal imbalances and certain prescription medications.  If you are uncertain about any of these health issues, please consult with your family physician.  Regarding hair color, laser hair removal does not effectively remove white or blonde hair.  To determine if you are a good candidate for laser hair removal, please call us to schedule your FREE and confidential consultation: (978) 834-9909

PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

  1. To avoid the risk of post-laser skin discoloration, you MUST avoid sun tanning AND tanning booths for 21-28 days before and after laser treatments.  In addition, we strongly recommend daily use of a broad spectrum sunscreen (SPF 35, or higher) over all treatment areas until you have completed your entire series of laser treatments.
  2. Avoid bleaching, plucking or waxing hair for 3-4 weeks prior to treatment.
  3. If you have a history of cold sores (oral herpes), and you are receiving laser treatment in that area, prophylactic antiviral therapy (Valtrex or similar) may be necessary to avoid an outbreak.  It is recommended that you start antiviral medications the day before treatment and continue for up to one week after treatment.
  4. If you have darker skin, a skin lightening cream may be started 2-4 weeks before treatment.
  5. The use of sunless tanning cream must be discontinued at least one week before treatment.
  6. Stop usage of Vitamin A creams (Retin-A, Retinol, Tretinoin) 5-7 days before treatment.
  7. Inform your laser practitioner if you have used Accutane, or similar acne medications, in the last 12 months.

 POST-TREATMENT CARE:

  1. Immediately after the treatment, there should be erythema (redness) and edema (swelling) at the treatment site which may last up to 2 hours or longer. The redness may last up to 2-3 days. The treated area can feel like a sunburn for a few hours after. The application of ice during the first few hours after treatment will reduce the discomfort and swelling that may be experienced but we recommend only aloe vera gel after treatment. Rarely, minor epidermal blistering may occur in which case antibiotic cream (Neosporin, Bacitracin) may be applied. If this should happen, please contact our office immediately and our staff will give you further instructions.
  2. Makeup may be used immediately after treatment unless there is epidermal blistering. It is recommended to use only new makeup to reduce the risk of possible infection.
  3. The treated area can be washed normally with mild soap and water. Skin abrasion or exfoliation is not recommended for 5-7 days following treatment.
  4. The treated are should be covered with an SPF of 25 or higher and direct sun exposure should be avoided for 14-21 days.
  5. Avoid sun-tanning the treatment areas for 14-21 days before and after a laser hair removal.
  6. Avoid skin exfoliation creams and treatments 5-7 days after treatment.
